One of our favorite things is hearing firsthand accounts from our clients! This not only allows us to continue to learn and improve upon our service for our clients but it’s also a very important aspect of the business from the client’s perspective as well which is why we always encourage prospective clients to meet with some of our previous clients before making the decision to work with us. Here are some of the reasons why you should speak to a contractor’s references before starting your project and some of the best questions to ask:
Don’t Just Take Their Word For It!
First and foremost, some companies are just going to tell you what they think you want to hear in order to get the job which is why it’s vital to speak to someone who has already gone through the process to get their honest feedback. We’d even recommend meeting in person because this allows you to potentially see the finished project for yourself and gives them the opportunity to speak more freely and divulge information that they might’ve left out of an online review for example which is why those should be taken with a grain of salt.
Two Minds Are Greater Than One!
Another great benefit to meeting with a contractor’s references is it allows you to compare your vision for your upcoming project to similar ones that the contractor has done already to see if they will be a good fit. This can sometimes even lead to bouncing ideas off each other. For example, they might have done something that you hadn’t thought of but really like or on the other hand might convince you out of doing something because it didn’t work out well for them.
Important Questions to Ask:
- Did they stay within budget and on schedule?
- Were they professional and friendly?
- Were they easy to get in touch with?
- Did they communicate any problems or delays in a timely manner?
- Would you recommend working with them?
At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you’re looking to renovate your home, pick a destination for your next vacation, or anything in between its always nice to speak to someone who has experienced it already to help ease your concerns and prepare you for what’s ahead.
