Another area you could recoup the cost of the remodel is adding a bathroom. Many older houses only have one bathroom, which won’t do for a large family. Bathroom additions are relatively inexpensive, especially if you source the materials from thrift stores and big box stores. Expect to recoup much of the cost for an additional bathroom.
If you have a room in your house that you are not using, you may want to repurpose it. Many people find that finishing a basement or redoing an office space adds a lot of value to their homes. If you are repurposing a room before you sell the house, you won’t have to put in appliances or furniture, because the new homeowners will want to add their touches to the room. This idea may be one of the least expensive remodeling jobs, and you can recoup all of your costs on the redo.
